Carrels
facing English Bay
This
last detail is part of the front facade. It concerns boundaries
at three scales. The carrels are porches facing the city. Space
is dramatically expanded as one enters the carrel. When the sliding
wood panel on top of the desk is closed off, the space is perceived
to be private and enclosed. Yet when one turns and opens the panel,
the scale immediately changes as one sees the city. Also the walls
of the carrels are jogged, and the view one sees when one sits or
stands is different.
