The
project is used as a vehicle to explore how boundaries and thresholds
can be re-conceptualized to become moments of intensified experiences,
so architecture is more than just a background for events. The program
is divided into three separate yet related blocks: a sound and moving
-images library, an entertainment center and a community center.
The building is conceived as an object which sits on a site that
cuts across grassland, pedestrian and cycling paths, beach and water.
Site elements, such as beach and water, are spliced into the building,
creating a series of strips that correspond to the site conditions.
Boundaries
between these strips oscillate and are negotiated according to their
differing requirements of size, times of operation, accessibility,
light conditions and noise levels at different points. The thesis
is then a series of reading between the lines.
